A woman can be divorced by her own husband, and a man can be remarried by a woman who marries someone else.
But a woman cannot be remarryed by her ex-husband if they share a common-law marriage.
The rules apply to only one woman and one man in the U.S. The legal system treats divorce differently than common-laws marriages.
