Posted April 15, 2019 12:29:30AUGUSTA, S.C. — The wife and the son of an officer who was killed in a shooting during a traffic stop have filed a lawsuit in South Carolina.
The wife, Marissa, and her son, Isaiah, are seeking $25 million in damages, the Charleston Post and Courier reported Friday.
The lawsuit claims police shot the father in a traffic incident in February of this year.
Marissa claims the police officer, identified as Johnathan, was “trying to pull over a vehicle that was speeding” when he was shot.
Isaiah, a student at the University of South Carolina, said he witnessed the shooting from his bedroom window.
“The cops shot him in the chest and I’m sure there’s some blood everywhere,” Isaiah said.
“He had his hands up.
I think he just dropped his phone.”
Isaiah said his mother was “a big believer in God” and believed that the officer’s actions were justified.
The police department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
